Entrepreneur? Solopreneur? Microbusiness? When you are thinking of going out on your own, how do you make the most of the opportunity ? Deciding what you need to know and where you can find direction can make the difference between launching or stopping the countdown.

Individuals who want to start their own sole proprietorships or small businesses have a multitude of low-cost, accessible business management tools. With cloud computing and point-of-sale or payment processing software readily available, the overhead costs of running a business is significantly lower than it has ever been before. I’m located in Anchorage, Alaska so some of my advice will be Alaska-centric but generally I’ll share lessons-learned and practical tips about the best way to successfully start a small business enterprise.

Entrepreneur: Traditionally, an entrepreneur has been defined as "a person who starts, organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk".

Microenterprise or Microbusiness: A microenterprise is generally defined as a small business employing nine people or fewer. Most microenterprise owners are primarily interested in earning a living to support themselves and their families.

Solopreneur: A business owner who works and runs their business alone.
